Aussie Pop Singer Troye Sivan Hits Back At Gay ‘bottom Shaming’

Aussie pop singer Troye Sivan hits back at gay ‘bottom shaming’

Aussie pop singer Troye Sivan has hit back at gay ‘bottom shaming’.

“Bottoming” refers to the passive sexual position of a man during gay anal sex.

Aussie pop singer Troye Sivan releases ‘ode to bottoming’

Critics are describing Sivan’s latest single ‘Bloom’ as an “ode to bottoming”.

They say the song sees the young superstar “embrace the sensuality and sexuality of being a bottom”.

It follows recent public “bottom shaming” incidents that have upset members of the gay community.

Singer says song about flowers

‘Bloom’ is the third single from the Perth singer’s second album.

It starts with these lyrics:

“Take a trip into my garden.

“I’ve got so much to show ya – the fountains and the waters – are begging just to know ya.”

Although the singer insists he is singing about flowers, critics believe it refers to receiving anal sex for the first time, sighting the first chorus:

Cause it’s true, babe… I been saving this for you, baby… Tell me right before it goes down… Hold my hand if I get scared now.

Bottom shaming

The single comes out at the same time as some big name comedians have been labelled homophobic for engaging in “bottom shaming”.

Bottom shaming means making fun of guys who receive anal sex.

Jimmy Kimmel, normally a friend of the gays, got into the gutter during a tit-for-tat spat with Donald Trump’s number one fan and propagandist, Sean Hannity from Fox News.

Hannity called Kimmel an “arse-clown”, and “a despicable disgrace” for mocking first lady Melania Trump’s accent during a segment on his late-night show.

In response Kimmel tweeted:

“When your clown makeup rubs off on Trump’s ass, does it make his butt look like a Creamsicle?”

“Don’t worry – just keep tweeting – you’ll get back on top! (or does Trump prefer you on bottom?)

“Either way, keep your chin up big fella..XO.”

Jimmy Kimmel and Sean Hannity.

Chelsea Handler also got in on the anal sex gags, writing on twitter that Attorney-General Jeff Sessions preferred to be on the receiving end.

“Jeff Sessions is definitely a bottom.”

Chelsea Handler.

Social media backlash

Social media went into meltdown as bottoms everywhere revolted.

Miles Heffernan from Discrimination Claims asked:

“Since when has it been okay for liberal comedians to insinuate there is something wrong with gay sex?

“And since when is one particular gay sexual position a shameful and cringeworthy act?

“And why is calling someone ‘a bottom’, an acceptable way to mock them?”

Chandler and Kimmel apologise

Sensing the backlash, Chandler was quick to respond with another tweet, declaring that she was proud to identify as a bottom:

“I’m a bottom, and I’m proud of it.”

Jimmy Kimmel also apologised.

“By lampooning Sean Hannity’s deference to the President, I most certainly did not intend to belittle or upset members of the gay community, and to those who took offence, I apologise.”
